Suspended surfaces for moving bodies

Pierre and Caroline are members of the design collective Dito.

The Dito collective, initiated in 2006, unites seven young designers of the same generation.
With Designer's Days, we were offered the opportunity to settle in a dance room of the Centre National de la Danse.
Regarding its architecture, we had the desire to take into account its features and to exploit its properties: to let bodies in motion, in space and time, creating rhythms, tensions, by bringing together the essential of choreography and stage scenery to components of a room to live.
Our choice was to design the space from its center – Galaxy – shaping it with a wide range of suspended volumes and surfaces. We leave the ground to invade heights.
These functional elements revolve in interactions, suggesting uses, places of life, a landscape. It brings up an ecosystem where motion is suspended ... but apparently only.
In fact it is a dynamic setting where the visitor is invited to contribute to the composition when walking. Manipulation of this constellation of objects make them evolving. Following guest intervention, element interacts like in a galaxy.
Having the opportunity to work into the Dito team is a chance for us to develop drawings, an imaginary, a reflexion always in progress, constantly questioned by the will of gathering around a free research. The poetic dimension stands out in our working process.
